Back in September, writers in Room 123 began learning about what makes an effective personal narrative. Collaboratively, they wrote a narrative about a fire drill that includes a topic sentence and the important events.
Then, students learned about the importance of adding details that help the reader visualize the event.
Now, writers are learning about using leads and conclusions in their personal narratives. Effective leads hook the reader’s attention while well-written conclusions provide a satisfying ending for the reader.
After this collaborative practice, students applied what they learned to their own writing. We will celebrate their accomplishments with Popcorn and Publishing soon!

Impressive work for first grade! This same lesson could go through middle school.
