What is life like in different parts of the world? Last week, learners in Room 123 began to answer that question!
First, we read Wake Up, World, a nonfiction text about children’s daily lives around the world. As students noted important information, I recorded their thinking. Then students worked in groups to think about that information by comparing life in another country with their own lives. They expected to find many differences, but were surprised by the number of similarities they noted!
Next, they identified the cool things about life in that country as well as things that might be hard. Finally, they used this to decide if they would like to visit that country for a year.
This process not only helped students learn new information, but also helped them learn thinking strategies they can use in all curricular areas. Take a look!
