Children talk all the time–why would they need more practice doing it?
Effective speaking and listening–especially as part of a group process–is actually quite challenging. These skills, however, are essential in today’s world. Students in Room 123 have been learning how to discuss ideas, debate issues, and make decisions using effective listening and speaking skills.
They certainly use these skills during academic discussions–to infer themes when reading a fiction text, for instance. But they also use them to solve problems in our classroom.
Students are learning not only how to think critically, but also how to participate effectively as classroom citizens!
