Just the facts?
Young learners are often described as sponges, as they eagerly soak up information on new topics. But learning isolated facts is not the goal of reading. To truly understand, readers must think about those facts.
While listening to a nonfiction text on mammals, they noted key facts and details. To better remember this new information, they reread and sorted their notes into categories. That is, they made connections between the facts. You can see this process below.
Over the next few weeks, students will study different types of living animals and plants during both reading and science. They will use their learning to answer our big question: How are living things similar and different?
